The VibeSetters are a Rock n' Reggae Jazzfunk group who have just recently made Santa Cruz, California their hometown after a not so easy decision to
leave their island refuge of St. John in the Caribbean. The sound
that The VibeSetters lay down is a healthy dose of funky rural electronic reggae rock rhythms applied with urban jazz and hip hop
sensibilities which respect the past, celebrate the present and give promise to the future of
music. Their simple, yet textural rhythm based songs have attracted an enthusiastic and eclectic
audience to date with positive responses to the music from around the globe. A listener from "This is not traditional reggae. It is refreshing and mystic.
A litte bit moviesoundtrackstyle. Puts
me in a state of euphoria." Together since 2004, The VibeSetters have released 2 full
length albums and are just completing work on their third and most captivating record yet for release, Peace for all Beings, will be available to radio
and the press on album will also be available for download through internet
sites CDBaby.com, Soundclick.com and Garageband.com. The
first single off the CD will be the lead track "Walk Strong", with
lyrics that explore making peace happen within ourselves so that we may
calm the world. Living in the US Virgin Islands shaped the sound of the band
to reflect the sometimes tumultuous conditions created by the struggle between urban progress
and preserving paradise. Sensing how people can be uplifted from violence, poverty, sickness and
discrimination through the inspiration of music, The VibeSetters set upon a mission of equity, justice
and peace for all beings. Taking their music to the mainland has enabled the message and positive
vibrations to reach more people. While playing clubs, theaters and festivals in the mainland
United States from coast to coast, members of The VibeSetters have shared the stage with the
following talented musicians: Robert Randolph, Rusted Root, Ani Difranco, Blues Traveler,
John Brown's Body, Warren Haynes, Dark Star Orchestra, Steve Kimock, Railroad Earth, Tea Leaf
Green and The Derek Trucks Band. The VibeSetters music has been described by one reviewer as
'Jimi Hendrix meeting Bob Marley to collaborate on a retro-rock reggae electronica soundtrack
for inner peace.' The band is working towards attaining a mastery of original musical
communication worthy of such a comparison with classic musical icons like Marley and Hendrix, while
incorporating some of the more innovative computer based sonic technologies into the music. They
balance their original songwriting and composition with improvisational tendencies since
spontaneity and structure foster the creative tension which gives rise to new musical creation. The VibeSetters are giving the impression to listeners of various tastes that they are inventing a new
sound with their music born from the cross pollination of diverse cultural influences with modern
perspectives on universally celebrated classic reggae and rock songwriting. The VibeSetters are an intelligent and politically concerned
band with a strong emphasis on uplifting the conscience to relieve the social suffering of all. When folks hear the music, they feel the vibration of the soundwaves and receive inspiration to set
upon the mission. The music provides
courage to gather strength for fighting oppression and alleviating
suffering. Like a sound swelling inside a feedback loop... hope, love, truth, equity, justice and peace will
resonate louder and stronger until freedom is the only song we hear and the only song we sing. However, a destination is pointless if you do
not enjoy the ride so, please support music that makes you feel
alive. Sing, smile and be safe.
Love, The VibeSetters
The VibeSetters consider themselves to be a present day rock n' reggae jazzfunk improvisational experiment in classic songwriting and music composition for the positive upliftment of universal suffering and injustice. Folks who have experienced The VibeSetters music don't
necessarily agree and had the following to say when asked the question: "What type of music do The VibeSetters play?" _________________________________________ more rock or alternative influence rather than reggae a weird mix of jam stuff and rock and reggae. I do not know
if I would call it reggae rasta deadhead or country reggae More pop then reggae rock/ska/blues not typically reggae but with a nice flow. Hip-Hop didn't make me think of Reggae, but more old rock Not sure about the style, can't really classify them Rocksy remindes me of some old Zeppelin riffs Almost not reggae the soul of this music is rock, southern rock influenced by a west coast rock blues approach sounds like something by Sublime not really reggae more rocky than reggae not really reggae in my book reminds me of Santana.
Very groovy! I like their dynamics...a subtle vibe is in the air new Reggae? Mellow vibes kind of bluesy its just like chill music you guys can definitely jam!! Nice jazz feeling Good for those mellowed out kind cool jazzy blues not overboard on the happy side and not too mellow either Shoegazey Jazzy Reggae Jam Me gustó el estilo y rhythm Very textural..infectious...very cool not really reggae to me..but would fit into several categories..blues,pop,funk cause of its chilled nature Got the Latin vibe happening hypnotic groove groove rock I haven't heard stuff like this since Steely Dan or old
Santana. An urban feel. The rhythms away
you like a long lost lover and holds you there till the end Santana meets The Dead a spice of reggae
